Kona Coffee Online

|

The vast marketplace of the Internet gives us more choices than we have ever had before in finding exactly what we want. Unfortunately, it also gives dishonest people a pretty large sandbox to play in as well. We purchase clothing, electronics and even food online with millions of dollars being spent in the virtual marketplace every day. Coffee is a popular item for online purchase, particularly with specialty coffees and blends that are indigenous to specific areas such as the rare, expensive Kona coffee from Hawaii. When you want to buy Kona coffee online, there are some things you need to know in order to ensure that you are getting exactly what you are paying for and what you are being led to believe you are purchasing.

When you buy Kona Coffee online, you want to make sure that you are getting the real thing. Before you click that “Buy” button, ask these four questions:

How Much are You Paying for your Kona Coffee?

Kona coffee is very rare. This means that it is quite expensive. A single pound of 100% Kona coffee can go for $20, $40 or even more. If you are paying $8 or $10 dollars for your Kona coffee, take a closer look. Either you are getting about a half a cup of coffee, or you aren’t getting pure Kona coffee. Check the price before you buy Kona coffee online. In this case, you want the higher price tag.

What is It Called?

Many retailers create coffee blends, adding Brazilian, Colombian or some other type of coffee to the Kona coffee. More often than not, the percentage of Kona coffee in the blend is far less than the other coffee at about a 10:90 ratio. If you buy Kona coffee online, check the name of the coffee. Names like “Kona Blend,” “Kona Style” and “Kona Roast” are big tip offs that what you are getting is not 100% pure Kona coffee.

Where is the Kona Coffee Coming From?

Kona coffee comes from Hawaii. That is where the beans are cultivated and state laws are in place to protect the labeling of the coffee sold there. You don’t have those guarantees anywhere else, including elsewhere in the United States because there are no U.S. Federal statutes that support these state laws for manufacturing of the coffee outside of the Hawaiian borders. When you buy Kona coffee online, check to see where it is coming from. If it does not say Hawaii, you may want to look a little harder.

How is it Labeled?

According to Hawaii state laws, only authentic Kona coffee can sport the label “100 percent Kona.” If you buy Kona coffee online and you have determined that it is
1) expensive,
2) labeled as Kona and not as a blend or style and
3) it comes from Hawaii, then all you have to do is check to see that the label tells you the coffee you are buying is 100 percent Kona.
If a Kona blend comes out of Hawaii, the laws there dictate that the percentage of Kona coffee in the blend must be clearly indicated on the label.

So when it comes to Kona coffee, look before you buy. With a coffee this rich, smooth and delicious, trust me, it is well worth the effort.
